Taking a turn- engaged.HEIC

This work redefines concepts of sustainability and social entrepreneurship that for too long have been under the sway of narrowly conceived economic mandates such as the necessity of growth. - Dr. Paul James, Western Sydney University, Australia

Built for real classroom learning challenges

  • Students think first—then collaborate better
Learners start by generating ideas on their own before the team sprint. That “think-first” step reduces groupthink, helps quieter students show up with something in hand, and raises the quality of discussion when teams merge perspectives.

  • No business experience required (no blank-page panic)
No business yet? No worries. Faculty can drop students into pre-made business models—like a lemonade stand, dog walking service, or social media designer—so everyone can start immediately with a shared baseline. Already have a venture (or capstone project)? Great—students map it on a Business Model Canvas and use the game to level it up.

  • Sustainability becomes concrete, not theoretical
Instead of debating concepts, students build actionable improvements across real business levers—customers, value, operations, partners, costs, revenue—so sustainability becomes something you design and test, not just something you discuss.

  • Challenge-based learning that turns problems into opportunities
Unexpected constraints and “messy” business challenges aren’t a derailment—they’re the point. The Sustainability Lens helps students uncover hidden strengths, maximize resources, and create new connections that lead to innovation, resilience, and growth.
